Cole Receives the Champion of Academic Medicine Award

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) was recently honored with the prestigious Association of American Medical Colleges’ Champion of Academic Medicine Award for his significant contributions to advancing medical research and education in the United States.

In a statement following the award announcement, Congressman Cole emphasized the importance of medical research in enhancing healthcare outcomes, stating, "Medical research is essential to strengthening health care, developing new treatments and cures, combatting diseases, improving the well-being of Americans, and saving more lives."

Reflecting on his past efforts as the former Chairman of the House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations subcommittee, Congressman Cole highlighted the bipartisan collaboration that led to a substantial increase in funding for medical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and enhanced access to medical student education in underserved communities. He expressed his passion for advocating for robust biomedical research funding to discover new treatments and cures, aiming to improve the health of the American people and future generations.

Upon receiving the award, Congressman Cole expressed gratitude, stating, "It is truly an honor to be awarded the 2024 Champion of Academic Medicine Award, and I want to thank the Association of American Medical Colleges for all of the important work they do to improve medical research and education throughout our nation."
